DEPUTIES FREE ACCIDENT VICTIM: Ottawa County Sheriff's Department Deputies and other emergency personnel work to free Kathleen Reus, 28, of 11423 Maple Ct., Allendale, Michigan -- who was seriously injured in an accident Tuesday morning on 72nd Avenue in Blendon Township. Reus underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon and was reported in stable condition Friday at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Sheriff's deputies reported Reus was southbound on 72nd Avenue when she lost control of her car on the icy road and struck a tree. The accident occurred near the corner of Tyler Street and 72nd Avenue.

I would like to share with you a story of God's protection upon my life. What the devil meant for evil, God has turned it into good for His glory. I first want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for sparing my life and giving me the opportunity to share this with you. It is my hope and desire that if you have personally gone through or are still going through a literal attack upon your life by way of sickness or calamity, that this story will give you hope and encouragement to know that God is real and that He does take care of His children. I am living proof of that!
On February 12, 1980, I was traveling my usual route to work. I had about 25 miles to get to my destination and I had decided to take the back roads that day to go to work. I was just shortly out of the town in which I lived and it had been a very mild winter that year, so there were very little problems with driving in the winter of 1980. But, I had gotten on the road out of my hometown when suddenly my car hit a patch of ice that I was unaware of and went spinning off the road. When I had landed in a ditch, I hit a tree. At that time the seat belt law was not in effect so I did not have my seat belt fastened. When I hit the tree I was thrown to the passenger side of the front seat and the car hit the tree on the driver's side. I know if I had the seat belt in place, I would not be here to this day. Immediately someone who had seen the accident phoned in for help for me to an E-Unit and help arrived within ten minutes. The car was so badly damaged that they had to cut the roof of the car off to be able to remove me from it. I had multiple injuries to say the least. To name a few: I had a concussion (which caused me to have a short term memory loss for which I am still standing in faith believing for a total healing of my memory), damaged kidney, ruptured spleen (for which I had to have a partial spleen removal), cracked ribs, cracked pelvic, and ruptured lung.
I was a new Christian at the time of this accident and I know that Satan intended to remove me from this life so that God could not mold me and make me into the woman He desired for me to be. For His glory, I wanted to be used by Him to help others to know Him personally and Satan knew that. He knew the potential I could reach in the Kingdom of God, so his plan was to kill, steal, and destroy this new life I had just found in Christ Jesus.
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10 KJV)
The doctors at the hospital did not think I would survive, but through the prayers of many praying saints and my family, I did survive, Praise God! I was only in the hospital for two weeks - the doctors' thought I would be in the hospital at least two months. Four months to the date of my accident I returned to my full-time job totally released with a clean bill of health from my doctor.
"...I am the Lord that healeth thee." (Exodus 15:26) and "... by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5 NKJV)
May I say here that I did not see with my natural eye any angelic beings coming to my aid. But I believe in all sincerity that God's angels were there to see to it that I had the help I needed through that unknown person in the vehicle behind me, and then to have the help I needed within ten minutes!
God's Word says in Psalms 91:11-12 (KJV): "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone."
That is awesome to me and I thank God for His protection upon my life. Now may I also say that since the seatbelt law came into effect, I have been faithfully wearing my seat-belt. But I am thankful that I did not have it on that day because if I had, I don't believe I would be here.
Even though seat-belts were not a law to wear at that time, they were still put in cars to help protect peoples' lives in times of accident. But through our ignorance, sometimes of what is meant for our good, we totally ignore the safety features that are put there to protect us and sometimes have to suffer the consequences from our actions. I guess I want to say through all of this is that through my ignorance, God's grace and mercy was upon me and saved my life. Thank you Lord for your love and mercy in my life!
What Satan meant for evil in my life, God meant for good! Exactly one year from the date of my accident, I had my first date with my husband to be. He blessed our lives with the desire of our hearts to be married - which was each other on June 19, 1982!

Remember: All that we do in this life comes back to our God-given purpose which is to serve and glorify God. The money and assets we accumulate, the fame and power we've attained or seek to attain - all of the things of this nature will one day pass away, but those lives of others we impact for Jesus Christ will last for eternity, and we will be rewarded for the part we helped play by impacting those lives ... for eternity.
