THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING COVENANT RIGHTS WITH GOD

(By: Norm Rasmussen)

The more a Christian understands their covenant rights with God, the more joy, peace, faith, favor and effectiveness [blessings] they will have in their relationship with Him.

A Christian cannot wage very fruitful spiritual warfare against the constant attacks of Satan against them, until they understand and appropriate their covenant rights with God in Christ.

It is the burning desire of God's heart that disciples of Jesus Christ understand their covenant rights with God the Father through Jesus Christ The Living Word. If they don't understand them, surely they won't appropriate them!

Conversely, it is Satan's top priority to try to keep Christians blinded and/or confused about their covenant rights with God through Jesus Christ their Savior and Lord.

The way God expects disciples of Jesus Christ to appropriate their New Covenant rights is by faith - trust.  Faith in WHAT? Faith in God's written Word. Faith in God's written Word wisely interpreted - wisely applied. Ever-increasing unwavering faith in the promises of God in His New Covenant Word to disciples of Jesus Christ eager to please God by walking in ever-increasing obedience to Him.

God the Holy Spirit gives illumination to followers of Jesus Christ about their covenant rights with the Father in and through the Written New Covenant (Testament) Word of Jesus Christ.

The Old Testament Bible was God's means of communicating the Jews' exclusive covenant rights with Him. The New Testament Bible is God's means of communicating to everyone now - Jew and Gentile - that they can be granted God's fullest covenant blessings with Him in and through Jesus Christ exclusively.

God was the one who originated 'covenant.' He originated covenant with the Jewish people. The covenant was basically a contractual promise from God to the Jewish people. Simply stated:  If the Jewish people, especially the leaders, obeyed everything God commanded of them, God would bless them. If they didn't obey Him, God would withhold blessings from them (which essentially meant to bring judgment or cursing on them to various degrees).  And the point for us today to make or understand of that? The nature and character of God doesn't change. God blesses obedience to Him. He withholds blessings for disobedience to Him.

For believers in Christ Jesus who purpose to function in the New Covenant, they are granted God's authority to do God's will. Here is an excellent video message explaining the fundamentals of walking in and under God's covenant authority:  ALL AUTHORITY - By: Andrew Leach

To date, the very best way I know how to help Christians understand their covenant rights with God is expressed in this writing.

Remember:  All that we do in this life comes back to our God-given purpose which is to serve and glorify God. The money and assets we accumulate, the fame and power we've attained or seek to attain - all of the things of this nature will one day pass away, but those lives of others we impact for Jesus Christ will last for eternity, and we will be rewarded for the part we helped play by impacting those lives ... for eternity. (Matthew 6:19-20 is our assurance)
