BUSY BEES

(By: Mary E. Adams)

This summer I had a man come in to do some bulldozer work on the property. He removed a lot of dead trees that had fallen long ago and leveled off the ground. Not wanting to have to mow that area, I threw out some wildflower seeds. They are just now blooming...and what an array of beauty! One poppy was about 4 inches across!

As I walked through this wilderness heaven, bees were so busy! Surely they are sensing the coming of winter and are working furiously to collect all the nectar they can before frost. It is amazing to see them work...unconcerned about me being there watching, just going about their business.

Soon everything will be under a blanket of snow here...and all that beauty will have come and gone. The wildflowers which delighted us, thus pollinated by these busy insects, will fall to the ground and scatter their seeds as they do so. laying down a foundation of hope for another springtime.

How I marvel at the many sermons that could be preached from this simple thought. It makes that scripture so profound to me, "except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone; but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit." (John 12:24)

So the bees and other insects are so important!  unless pollinated, the flowers have no chance to produce any seeds with life.

Are you "busy as a bee," touching the lives of others?

A beautiful thought...that the bees are attracted to that sweet nectar and lured to taste, and in doing so they bring with them the pollen they collected on their feet from visits with other plants. They start pollinating without realizing it. When they land on a flower, their feet often slip into a little grove that holds the pollen sacs. When it flies away, it carries off the sac like a saddlebag and when it lands on another flower looking for nectar, the saddlebag falls off, pollen falls out of the sac and pollination is underway.

The cycle of life in nature repeats itself in the spiritual. Only the "worker" bees do this. And that is what you and I must become! "O taste and see that the Lord is good!" After we taste His goodness and mercy, there is an automatic desire to taste more and more, and as we do this, we carry life to all around us!! Eternal life!

Today I received two emails...one from a young lady that had carried bibles into China but was so eager to do more. Another letter was forwarded to me of a Christian .who was "ready to throw in the towel." How ironic that I would receive both in one day, especially as I write my thoughts about the bees and my lovely wildflowers.

Do we ever stop being "workers?"

"How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace." Like the worker bees, our feet will be laden with life-giving pollen...that wherever we go, we bring with us life! We do it without even being aware of it...

I have a dear friend over in Asia, on the island of Borneo. He just recently wrote me this:

"Before I came back (to Malaysia), I visited a distant outreach where SIB first began...there a 90-year old English missionary who had lived the last 65 years of his life among the Dusuns (a tribe in Sabah) was celebrating his birthday...almost a thousand came from far and near...I was awestruck by the humility of this great man of God...in his prayer he said " Father...if you would consider the humble prayer of a lowly man..."

This man's name is Trevor White... there's a book written about him...maybe I'll get one and post it to you to read...He even married a Dusun widow and today is a grandfather and great grandfather. He still lives in a small shack proclaiming the Word of Salvation to all so much so that the Dusuns gave this missionary the name ASANG...which means the "one who brings light in the darkness."

Friend, are you discouraged, feeling useless and "put on the shelf?" Yes, we can get that way when troubles arise and we yield to Satan's discouragement. Life on this planet has many attractions, but tragedies and heartbreaks as well. However, I have noticed that the bees seem to have only one thing in mind,  and they know how to deal with interference...

We can start today to smell the nectar once again, be drawn to it...go and seek where the fragrance is coming from. And as we again savor the taste of the Lord, delighting and receiving from Him,  we will pick up spiritual pollen on our feet that will automatically do its thing into the lives of others...and in the end will produce "honey in the rock"...a continual feast for our souls!

God bless you today!
