WHEN THINGS DON'T GO OUR WAY, LET GOD DETERMINE WHAT IS BEST FOR US

(By:  Norm Rasmussen)

The wise Christian prays and asks God to give them such and such -- DO such and such. If God doesn't grant them their desire...they REFUSE to grow angry at God. Rather, they make a decision to continue trusting and walking with Jesus Christ because their faith lies in their belief that God knows WHAT IS BEST for them in every situation they encounter as HE determines what's best.

The conflict we have with Him is that we want to try to convince Him what WE assume is best for us, don't we? Spoiled, selfish kids throw their temper tantrums when they don't get what THEY want, don't they? We adults begin to reject God (if we're not careful, taking Satan's subtle yet lethal bait!) and grow cold and rebellious toward Him when WE throw our angry, vengeful temper tantrums in our relationship with Him.

God is far more after character growth in each of our lives than giving us everything we would like to get from Him, because character growth affects our ETERNITY. The sooner we come to grips with this fact, the greater faith we'll have in trusting Him as admonishes us to always do:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Remember:  All that we do in this life comes back to our God-given purpose which is to serve and glorify God. The money and assets we accumulate, the fame and power we've attained or seek to attain - all of the things of this nature will one day pass away, but those lives of others we impact for Jesus Christ will last for eternity, and we will be rewarded for the part we helped play by impacting those lives ... for eternity. (Matthew 6:19-20 is our assurance)
