WHO AND WHAT WILL YOU ULTIMATELY SHOW YOUR ALLEGIANCE TO?
Jesus Did It!
By: Norm Rasmussen
A time is coming when Godís people will have to make perhaps the most difficult decision they will ever have to make in this life.
For a few, it wonít be a difficult decision at all, for they have chosen to accept Godís Word at face value, and in so doing, they have become as little children Ö trusting their Daddy knows what is best, and trusting their Daddy that he will surely take care of what is most important: Their soul and spirit Ö which happens to be eternal.
For the rest ... the masses ... it will be a much more difficult decision to make, because logically - through human reasoning - it will seem like Godís option is nothing short of suicide Ė shear madness. In fact, it will seem as cruel and unusual self-inflicted punishment not only upon them, but also their family, if they happen to be parents raising children and/or taking care of invalid parents.
Letís fast forward lifeís videotape. A time is coming when mankind is going to have to put EVERYTHING that is near and dear to them on the line -- step out of their earthly "peace" and "safety" boat -- and trust God to supernaturally be their safety net. Their financial safety net Ö their health safety net - their food and shelter safety net - their all-encompassing safety net.
If you are a Bible student at all, you most likely are familiar with the parable of the ten virgins. Five were ready when the bridegroom returned for His Bride, and five were not. Though many spiritual nuggets of insight can be gleamed from this parable, what we may have never been challenged to ponder is the aspect that the five wise virgins had not only their lamps full of oil, but had oil to spare. And when the bridegroom called out to His Bride, the five foolish virgins started freaking out Ė becoming highly stressed through worry and fear, one might conclude.
If one was able to ask the Holy Spirit what made the five wise virgins so WISE, I rather suspect His answer would be something like this:"They realized that oneís blind and desperate obedience to mankindís way of doing things is a one-way ticket to disaster, ultimately ... when it clearly opposes the Truth of the Word of God."
Godís Word clearly states that people who take "the mark" just so they can put food on their table to feed their hungry family are going to regret it for all eternity Ö never mind not being able to get at their retirement accounts (whatever might remain left of them) or being able to receive medical attention or even get a job or keep a job, more than likely.
"If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. And he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." (Revelation 14:9-11)
So, is the above scripture True or False? Does Rev. 14:9-11 mean what it clearly says, or will there became a "need" to publish one more Bible that changes the language "to minimize the cruel, fearful harshness that old, out-dated Bibles like the King James Bible contains?"
In my mind, Iíve heard this conversation being said many, many times, without ever being present, even behind podiums in churchís no less:
"Well, good Lord! God SURELY doesnít expect us to starve to death, does He? Hey - if the only way I can buy or sell anything to take care of my family is to take some stupid, innocent mark, whatís to decide? Iím NOT going to force my family to starve, or be instrumental in causing other families to starve as well! This is absolutely ludicrous!"And/or: "Besides Ö doesnít God forgive all sin anyway? Thatís what the preachers have been saying ever since I became a Christian. It says in 1 John 1:9 that God forgives sin if we confess it to Him, so Iím not going to let some wacky, fanatical Christians try to convince me that this is a sin God will not forgive, if our family takes this mark, even IF God sees it as sin, which I donít think He does anyway!"
Compromise, compromise, compromise. At what point does a person say, "Enough is enough! Iím stepping out of this boat of compromise and trust God to part the sea if need be. If He does not, I would rather die knowing I was dying for what I believe is pleasing to God than saving my own skin!"
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego (See: Daniel 3:12-18) was put in a place where their back was against the wall. Either they could serve a foreign God (Satan), or they could remain loyal to the God they had always known. When they stepped out of their boat, the sea beneath them was about to become as hot as molten lava. Yet they did not care. This world was not their home anyway. They had a home, eternal in the heavens, and if being barbequed was how they had to gain entrance to that eternal resting place Ö"Bring it on, king!"
An hour of trial is going to come upon the whole earth. Revelation 3:10 clearly says so. One canít help but wonder if that hour will visit us sooner than what we care to think. Could this time of trial include having the option before us of either taking the world-system mark so we can stay in the safety of this worldís boat Ö or step out of that boat and trust God to either rescue us, or die and receive the "ultimate rescue"Ö knowing that the principle of the matter is the difference between being a wise virgin verses an unwise, foolish virgin?
I believe we can receive a HUGE clue as to how God views a wise virgin, verses a foolish virgin. Revelation 14:12 in the NKJV Bible contains that clue:
Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
Do you have the faith of Jesus to believe God can supernaturally take care of your every need, if you refuse to take the mark of the beast -- to opt out of the world system, really? Do you have the faith of Jesus to believe that if you are thrown into prison if need be due to your allegiance to Jesus Christ and His Word Ö or would you do whatever seemed "logical to do at the time" to seemingly save your own skin?
"Awh, CíMon, Norm! For crying out loud Ö God is not going to put me in a position where I would have to do such a painful thing! Iíll be raptured away by that time anyway, if Iím alive when that time comes upon the Earth, so take a hike!"
Thatís all beside the point. I can just about assure everyone reading this that if you donít have the bull-dog desire to keep the commandments of God nowÖyouíll have a very difficult time acquiring "the faith of Jesus" to trust the Father when the time comes to step out of the boat and being able to testify of the supernatural ways God has met your needs.
The Holy Spirit has been known to impart faith when itís needed to those who earned the right to receive it. How does one earn the right to receive it when push comes to shove? Those who are more desirous and diligent to keep Godís commandments in the Word of God than those who donít, and those who will obey Godís Rhema Word to them when God gives them one. Not very profound, is it?
The five wise virgins learned one of the key secrets to obtaining sufficient oil and the right kind of oil. Their loyalty to what is important to God must never be compromised. Obedience to Godís clearly revealed, wisely applied written Word, as well as any specific Rhema Word to a person, takes precedence over obedience to manís law when it clearly violates Godís law. Godís law is clearly revealed in the New Covenant. Having "the faith of Jesus" to trust the Father to take care of oneís every need verses going to "the system" to meet oneís needs at the expense of compromising Godís Word Ė violating Godís clear commandments Ė is NOT optional Ö not if one wants to obtain the wisdom the five virgins have.
"And keep the faith of Jesus" is interesting wording in Revelation 14:12.
I believe what God wants us to catch here about "having the faith of Jesus" was the trust Jesus displayed in the Father, right up to the moment of His death on the cross. He chose to trust the Father to take care of his eventual outcome of things no matter how much the pain and humiliation Ö and whatever the cost. When our motives are unselfish and pure, the wise virgin is willing to lose all this world has to offer, or threatens to take away, which might even include "peace and safety" Ö simply to please God the Father.
To the wise virgin, the safest and wisest place to be when our backs are against the worldís wall is to place our trust in our heavenly Father as Jesus placed His trust in the heavenly Father. That is what a wise virgin would do. That is how the wise virgins became wise and stayed wise. A willingness to lose all if push comes to shove. A willingness to please the Bridegroom to demonstrate who she will TRULY give her allegiance to anytime a crucial decision needs to be made. Thatís keeping the faith of Jesus. Clearly displaying His loyalty to the Father, even if it killed Him, which it did Ö yet didnít.
