Jesus Did It!
By: Norm Rasmussen
Prayer is a gift we can give to ANYONE … even our enemies … and it is an incredibly effective way to be an honoring vessel of God to please Him. After all ... we DO want to please God in every way we know how, right?
God tells us so in Matthew 5:44: “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”
So the next time someone offends you – angers you - instead of silently wishing a curse to land on them, offer a “drive-by blessing” on them! We never know how God might move in the situation until we DO, now do we?
But this writing isn’t necessarily an admonition to try to move Christians to pray for their enemies. (Though if we don’t, God may allow our “enemies” to become even WORSE enemies to us! Let us always remember – when God tells us to do something, it is never to harm us. It is ONLY good for us. It’s our anger and pride and stubbornness that always begs to differ, isn't it?).
The intention of this writing is simply about being a more effective witness on behalf of our Lord and Savior. Allow me to share a brief testimony with you that the Holy Spirit used to motivate me to write this so others might benefit - and to help make the point.
On January 7, 2013, I met Dan Widdis for breakfast for the very first time in an informal setting. Dan is the owner of Ten Plus Inks, a company he founded to provide quality printer inkjet cartridges and toners to people at much lower prices than what major brand printer inkjet cartridge providers charge for them. Among other reasons for meeting with this precious brother in the Lord, I wanted to decide whether Precious Testimonies should start buying our printer inkjet cartridges from him rather than any place else to help reduce our ministry costs (which we’ve since decided to do and are happy we did).
Our waitress promptly came to our table to take our order, and before brother Dan gave it to her, he said, “We are going to pray before we eat. How can we pray for you?”
Our waitress was obviously a bit taken back by Dan’s question, but then she lost her composure and began to tear up and start crying. Totally unaware Dan was going to ask her the question, and a bit taken back myself to be honest … our waitress began to pour her heart out, asking Dan if he would be willing to pray for a close uncle of hers that is afflicted with serious cancer and unless God intervenes, will more than likely die from it.
Dan gave her his generous warm smile that always beams from him (as you can't help but notice if you have the chance to meet him in person -- here's a photo of him) and politely replied, “I would be honored to pray for him.”
He then asked her if she would like him and me to simply pray privately and quietly on behalf of her request, or would she like to openly join with us, holding hands. She quickly extended her hands, and with the restaurant very full of customers observing … the three of us united in prayer and lifted up her burden to God.
She dried her tears and then took our order, but not before she thanked Dan from the bottom of her heart for caring enough to ask her if she had a prayer need.
I sat there taking it all in … thinking to myself: This lady will never forget this moment. Whether God answers our prayer or not will never change the precious fact that this dear lady just got impacted by GOD when she probably least likely expected such a thing to happen! Talk about being a witness for our Lord!
As soon as our waitress left to give our order to the cook, I had to ask Dan what moved him to do such a thing – again not knowing Dan at all.
His casual reply: “I do that with just about every waitress that waits on me. I do that even with my customers and potential customers and people I meet wherever, as long as I sense the Holy Spirit is giving me the okay. God desires us Christians to be bold witnesses on His behalf, and I’ve learned that most people never get offended if you ask them if they have a prayer need. Not everyone will always say they do in a public setting, nor do they want you praying for them that very moment, but they will seldom if ever leave offended, and to me, that’s a positive witness for Jesus. Besides, what better way to be a blessing to others? I just enjoy blessing people as an outward appreciation to God for how much He has blessed me with salvation.”
FEAR! I heard the "FEAR alarm" going off inside my head immediately! FEAR that someone might think I’m weird. FEAR that someone might think I’m some fanatic. FEAR that the person might turn me down and even maybe get angry with me. I don't want any confrontation - any hassle! FEAR – FEAR – FEAR!
Can you relate?
Yet the Holy Spirit won’t let that encounter with that waitress leave me, and again and again He brings it to mind: How many opportunities have I personally had since being a Christian to be used of the Holy Spirit to be a witness on His behalf - to be a blessing to someone when they least expect it - by simply operating in HIS power instead of my own, and simply asking a stranger if they have anything they would like prayer for … and talked myself out of that opportunity simply because I hoped God didn’t want to use ME at that TIME to deposit a touch of God - a blessing from God - in that person … when all along, it was really FEAR, and more than likely, SELFISHNESS operating in me?
Saints – I must confess my cowardice and insensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Truly, I’m a selfish, fearful coward when it comes to doing such things with strangers. But I don’t need to STAY that way! I can begin to change! I can’t change my past lost opportunities to be that kind of witness and a blessing, but I CAN do something about while I’m still alive on this planet. And THAT I fully intend to press into with the help of God.
I’m asking all reading this that you would say a prayer for me regarding this matter. I no LONGER want fear doing my thinking for me when it comes to blessing strangers on behalf of my Lord and Savior and God - Jesus Christ! God has blessed me and I want to start passing blessings on to others more than ever before!
We all can use a spontaneous blessing, especially as this stressful world tries to chip away at our peace and joy, but if I am first unwilling to BE a blessing to others, perhaps it's little wonder others care to spontaneously bless me - suppose?
Lord - please help me be more bold for You. Please help me be more sensitive to Your Spirit when it comes to being a blessing to others. Please help me put Your following truth into practice more and more with others whose path I cross:
"Give, and it shall be given unto to you ..." (Luke 6:38)

Dear Reader - are you at peace with God? If not, you can be. Do you know what awaits you when you die? You can have the assurance from God that heaven will be your home, if you would like to be certain. Either Jesus Christ died for your sins, or He didn't (He did!). Are you prepared to stand before God on the Judgment Day and tell Him that you didn't need the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross to have your sins forgiven and get in right-standing with God? We plead with you...please don't make such a tragic mistake.
To get to know God, to be at peace with God, to have your sins forgiven, to make certain heaven will be your home for eternity, to make certain that you are in right-standing with God right now ... please click here to help you understand the importance of being reconciled to God.
